Learning Bulgarian? Here are some materials that will help you practice.

Video

Peppa Pig: Search YouTube for “peppa pig bg audio” to find hours of it.

Simple Bulgarian YouTube channel: A patient Bulgarian reads simple materials to you, explaining it in Bulgarian. Context and repetition help you learn naturally.

Това го знам: Quiz show for teenagers. The questions appear on the screen so you can pause and translate if necessary. You also get to enjoy hearing the presenter say that the question you got wrong is something that Bulgarians learn in seventh grade. On TV (БНТ) and YouTube.

Стани богат: The Bulgarian version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” The questions are displayed on the screen and the pace is a lot slower than Това го знам. I recommend older episodes with Mihail Bilalov as the presenter. He speaks more clearly than the current guy. On BTV and YouTube.

Look for this man.

The Clashers YouTube channel: Videos in clear Bulgarian about strange happenings, Bulgaria, and current events

Escapist fluff: If you can tolerate Hallmark-style movies, here’s a YouTube playlist of many with Bulgarian audio. I play the Bulgarian version long enough to see the English title and then look for the English version on YouTube. Then I put them in side-by-side windows.

Audio

I use AntennaPod for listening to podcasts on Android. It’s open source and private.

Бързи книги: Popular business and self-development books are summarized in clear Bulgarian. You can listen on their site, through their app, or subscribe to the podcast in a podcast app.

Storytel audiobooks in Bulgarian. They seem to be good quality. Requires a subscription and an app. For translated books, make sure the audio version is based on the same translation as your text version.

Естествен интелект podcast: Discussions of mostly psychological topics.

БНТ website: The news site includes AI audio with text articles. You could listen to the article and then read it to see what you missed, or read along with the AI voice. The voice might occasionally get the emphasis wrong, but at least the text was written by Bulgarians and not AI.

Easy books

Chapter books: Here’s one source, including simplified Sherlock Holmes stories. You’ll find more in the pre-teens section of a bookstore.
