There are some free drop-in events and many classes for Bulgarian folk dance.

Free public dancing

Sundays: Every Sunday, usually on the main square in front of the Military Club. They start about an hour before sundown, so the start time varies according to the season. Check the Facebook group for the current start time and location. There are no lessons; just join in or learn behind the dancers. This is part of the national movement Хора за хората (dances for the people) in which several cities organize free public dancing on Sunday evenings.

Saturdays: Most Saturdays, usually outside Decathlon in Trakia in the early evening, or at Temporadas Social Center on Sankt Peterburg in winter. Check their Facebook group for current times and location.

Lessons and formal groups

There are many groups, ranging from structured weekly lessons for beginners to performance groups to “let’s just dance intensely for two hours.” Usually you pay monthly for X sessions per week. Instruction will be in Bulgarian, but you don’t need to know the language to learn the dance.

  • Folklor BG has classes in several locations; see their main site or Facebook page.
  • Temporadas Social Center near Lauta Park is home to three folk dance groups that meet twice a week. Check their Facebook page for the current schedule.

There are many more. Search Facebook for народни танци пловдив and keep an eye out for flyers in your neighborhood.
